Breast Cysts
Breast cysts are fluid-filled sacs that are very common, particularly in women aged 40 to 60. They are nearly always benign, but a specialist assessment ensures they are properly diagnosed.
What is it?
A breast cyst is a fluid-filled sac within the breast tissue. They can feel soft or firm and may change in size with your menstrual cycle. Some women develop multiple cysts over time.
Why might someone consider it?
- You have been told you have a breast cyst and want a specialist opinion
- A cyst is causing discomfort or has grown larger
- You want confirmation that a lump is a cyst and not something else
- You have recurrent cysts and want advice on management
What happens during your consultation?
Miss Dua will examine the area and arrange an ultrasound to confirm the cyst. Cysts are usually diagnosed with imaging alone and do not always require treatment.
Treatment or surgical process
If a cyst is large or uncomfortable, it can be drained (aspirated) with a fine needle in clinic. If the fluid looks unusual, it may be sent for testing.
Recovery
Cyst aspiration is a quick procedure with no downtime. You can return to normal activities immediately.
Results
Most cysts disappear after aspiration. If a cyst refills, it can be drained again or monitored.
Risks and considerations
- Cysts can recur after aspiration
- In rare cases, a complex cyst may require further investigation
Miss Dua's approach
Miss Dua provides clear imaging and straightforward explanations. If a cyst needs draining, she can often do this during your clinic visit.
